What is the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)?
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) requires businesses with fewer than 500 employees to provide employees with paid leave, either for the employee's own health needs related to COVID-19 or to care for family members impacted by COVID-19.
•The FFCRA mandates covered employers to provide two types of emergency leave, Emergency Paid Sick Leave and Emergency Family and Medical Leave, both of which are available to eligible employees as of April 1, 2020, and through December 31, 2020.
•All qualifying wages paid out under the FFCRA to employees on emergency leave are eligible for reimbursement on a dollar-for-dollar basis through new tax credits created by the law.
•Employers should keep in mind that the FFCRA is a federal law; state and local leave requirements may apply as well.
What are the different types of leave under the FFCRA and who’s eligible?
See attached PDF for a guide to who’s eligible for Emergency Paid Sick Leave and Emergency Family and Medical Leave under the FFCRA, as well as how each type of leave works.
